Once upon a time an ancient, nameless skykid made friends with a moth. That moth asked them, “what’s your name?” They pondered a moment, then replied, “I forgot”. The moth, somewhat dense, inquired in a confused voice: “Iforgot? What an odd name. I’ll just call you Ifor”.

Seasons passed. Long after said moth had grown up, sacrificed countless lifetimes, and eventually faded into nothingness, another moth lit that weary skykid’s candle and asked, “what’s your name?” That skykid answered after a brief moment: “You can call me Ifor.”

Ifor is a gratitude kid, and has been around for countless seasons. While most skykids of their age have long since faded into nothingness, they somehow never managed to. And so, they pass their time by seeking thrill wherever they can - anything to impede the boredom, be it dodging krills, purposefully getting krilled, exploring out of bounds, worshipping AURORA, or half-heartedly following along the seasons.

They own a vast collection of cosmetics, and often are seen passing their time by switching up their look. Most often though, they wear their signature tattered dark robe with black boots (halloween pants), and sometimes season of duet’s sleeveless grey pants. Their cape is that of a manta they hunted themselves, and it serves to attract krill’s attention. The krill horn they carry on their back is also used to summon krills. Quite often though, they carry a musical instrument (such as the e-guitar, violin, or piano) in its stead. They’ve had ample time to practice various instruments to perfection.

Due to the constant negative energy surrounding them, and the countless amount of times they’ve lost their light, darkness has started growing on their body. It recedes and progresses like the tide, but most often it can be found on their head and face. Everytime they get reborn, their darkness is cleansed, but their darkness can also wither and die when they experience positive emotions. Positive emotions always come from forming bonds with moths, but it’s only a matter of time before the moth fades and their darkness grows back stronger.

Morally they are ambivalent, their mood changing unpredictably. They will often help redirect krills from other skykids by taking it head on, but sometimes will also lead a krill over to target another skykid just for the sake of it.

Currently, ifor is quite happy as they’ve made some new friends. Only time will tell if these will stay, but ifor has a feeling that at least one of them might. Said skykid is my irl partner’s character, and I very much enjoy drawing ifor with some of the ice melting from their demeanor (soft blushing ifor is my new obsession)

I hope this satisfies your curiosity! Ifor is probably the oc with the most lore I’ve made so far, besides my last skykid oc from like 2020, but i feel much more personally connected to Ifor because I based them off of my own playstyle of the game.

I’ve been playing sky since its release in July 2019, and I’ve had phases where I’ve gotten so tired of it, but just couldn’t quit for real cause of all the time and money I’d spent on it and all the fond memories I’d made (plus the game is just so pretty). I wanted to imagine how those feelings would translate to the character I’m playing as - I imagine they’d be amplified by a lot, so me wanting to quit the game became my skykid wanting to quit life, essentially. Fun stuff, fun stuff. And I do love to be the krill bait when doing wasteland quests with other ppl, so that part is pretty accurate too. And I’m also absolutely in love with the aurora concert and her music in general.

The only inaccurate part may be the “practicing to perfection” - I definitely know my way around the in game instrument mechanics but I’m no where near as good as some of those sky musicians out there hahaha, I do enjoy playing it though.

Welcome to the first ever Skyblr Hunger Games simulation! Over the next several days, your Sky Kids will be participating in a competition to determine who is the ultimate survivor. This simulation is being run by @skykid-nadir

The Game Plan

The game will take place over several days. Updates will go out two to three times a day, each one covering either a Day, a Night, or an Arena Event. In traditional Hunger Games style, there will be 12 Districts with 2 Tributes each, for a total of 24 contestants. I will be using Brant Steele's Hunger Games Simulator to run the game. Most events will be left as are, but I will be updating some to fit more appropriately into the world of Sky: Children of the Light.

This is an entirely fan-run event. We are not affiliated with ThatGameCompany or with The Hunger Games. All Tributes belong to members of the Sky fan community and the original creator will be credited.

Submitting Your Sky Kid

Each individual may submit 2 Sky Kids to participate in the games. All creators will be credited and their Tumblr accounts will be linked. Please let me know if you would like to be pinged when a post involving your character goes up!

Applications will be open from today until Saturday, April 29 at 11:59 CDTk (GMT+6). After that, I will add each submitted character to the bracket on a first come first serve basis. If you submit multiple OCs, they will appear in the same District. If I am unable to receive 24 submissions, I will supplement the rest of the Districts using NPCs from Sky: Children of the Light.

To submit an OC to the tournament, either message @skykid-nadir (my main blog) or send an Ask to this blog. Submissions should include your OC's name, pronouns, and a picture of them. Unfortunately the simulator I use only allows he/him or she/her pronouns, so nonbinary characters will have their pronouns chosen randomly.

Content Warnings

While the general content of this simulator is so extreme as to be comedic, there is some particularly violent content that might be disturbing to some participants. I will make an effort to add content warnings to anything particularly graphic or violent, but it is possible something will be missed. Deaths are not described in detail but include causes such as suicide, burning, suffocation, drowning, and crushing. There are also multiple events which reference characters losing their minds or stalking others. There is no shame in changing your mind about participating or in requesting a trigger be tagged.

HAND OVER THE HEADCANNON NOW PLEASE

Context

Aight. So first let's talk about how the sky language sounds like and what sounds it commonly uses.

My sky language, in both my headcannon and oc world, has many 'k', 'a' , 'r' and 'v' vowels and sounds, with heavy gutteral sounds like 'g'being used rarely or used as a silent letter. It kind of sounds like if you mixed spanish and japanese together.

(Although if this sounds too complicated you can just read it as is. I usually just write gibberish and then change it to make it sound like the language ex. I take away 'g' and add more 'a' and 'o')

So, how does names work in this language?

Names in the sky language often have two meanings and reading someone's name differently can give different impressions of the skykid. Lets take my skykid oc, Kari, for example. In english we would read her name as Ka-rie, but in the sky language it can be read/spoken as Kai-e or Ka-re. If we read her name as Kai-e, it translates to "Kind child". But if it's read it or say it as Ka-re, it translates to "Furious storm"

Sometimes a name would only have one meaning because it's too short, or a name could have three meanings. In the sky kingdom before the fall, names with three meanings were given to royalty and nobility. In very rare cases, a name could have 4 meanings, and those are only given to holy or religious figures.

Skykids names are often given to them, but some also pick their own names. Once they have a name, they choose how it will be read or spoken and associate themselves with that meaning. To refer to someone as the different meaning of their name when they didn't say you can, can be seen as rude or in worst case scenarios picking a fight/threatening them.

(Also it is possible that two skykids can have the same name, but each one is read differently. This is usually found with twins.)

Here are some more examples with my other oc's names

Mono- Moe-o/M-no (Quick shadow/Mischief, refers himself to the first meaning)

Sila- See-a/Si-la (Healer/Trickster, refers themselves to the first meaning)

Lae - La-e (Flower, only has one meaning)

Juno - Je-no/He-no (Second child/Star, refers herself to the second meaning)

Kari - Kai-e/Ka-re (Kind child/Furious storm, has no preference.)

(of course you don't have to read my oc's names like this. Reading them in plain English is also correct, as I consider that to be their translated names. As a fun game, I challenge you to write your skykids name in the sky language and what meanings are attached to them!)

I'll be honest, I'm not entirely up with the lore of Sky because it's a bit hard to follow, but here's what I'm going with for the case of Fawn:

Fawn is a Child of Light, a type of being that seems to act as something of a psychopomp in the world of Sky. The Elder spirits called such children forth to the realms of Sky, or perhaps created them themselves, for the purpose of soothing the spirits of the dead that find their way to these realms, and guiding lost Children of Light through the Eye of Eden to eternal light, themselves being unmade and reborn stronger with each trip through the storm that eternally rages in the Eye.

For fun, Fawn likes to play music and put on plays with her fellow Skykids at the Village Theater in the Village of Dreams, practice such performances in the Performance Hall, visit "Grandma" for dinner, and play pretend and hide and seek with her friends.

And now, she's made her way to Tumblr to make it an even brighter place. :)

NOTE: This should go without saying, but I am not comfortable shipping this muse with any other character, in any scenario. Despite being around for quite a while, they are still a young child. Aurora Encore Concert Commissions!

Wow that’s a lot of examples, click for better quality! I’m trying to collect the Aurora IAPs I missed and will be drawing skykids / spirits for those willing to get me these items! First the prices for them, then the available slots, and then what I will and won’t do!

Okay you guys REALLY like the idea of a space season, which is!! So reassuring because oh my god I have so many ideas for this, which I’ll be sharing later! Thank you all so much for the support! But for now I wanna clear two things up.

I think I’m going to call the season “Season of Cosmos”! I think the name fits the description nicely without being too clunky or blunt. Thanks to @ttltrashmammal for the idea, and thanks to everyone for the suggestions! It’s harder to come up with a season name than I thought, whew </3 I appreciate you all!

And second, Pluto would not be a spirit in this season… partly because 8 spirits in one season is already way more than the usual, but also because Pluto isn’t a planet. I’ll explain why below the cut, but still, I had a lot of people wanting to see some Pluto representation.

So… I came up with this little Skykid!

I wanted to show some of Pluto’s beautiful colors on the cape and mask, as well as Tombaugh Regio, Pluto’s heart!

I also gave them a little dolly that looks like Charon, Pluto’s largest moon! In fact, it’s so large compared to Pluto that they’re both tidally locked to each other (meaning they both face each other while they orbit around), and because their barycenter (the center of mass they both orbit) is outside of Pluto some people actually consider them a binary system instead of a dwarf planet and it’s moon!

Alright, so as for why Pluto isn’t considered a planet… Fair warning, this is lengthy

For starters, it’s not the only former planet! Back before Copernicus realized that the planets orbit the sun we thought everything in the solar system orbited Earth, and the Sun and Moon were both considered planets!

So we came up with the first rule for a planet; it must orbit the sun! If it orbits another object then it’s a moon or a satellite (we did need this distinction; we called the moons of Jupiter and Saturn planets too).

Once we got that debacle sorted out we started calling all the large asteroids in the asteroid belt planets too. Ceres, Vesta, Pallas, Juno, Astreae, Hebe and Iris were all considered planets. I mean, they orbit the sun so they’re not a moon, right? But then we’d have to include every single hunk of space crap we found in the belt, and it’s estimated that there’s 1.1 million to 1.9 million asteroids over the size of 1 kilometer, and millions of smaller particles too!

So we came up with a new rule; a planet must be large enough to reach hydrostatic equilibrium, or in other words to be rounded into a spherical shape under its own gravity. All the objects in the belt came to be known as asteroids or minor planets since they no longer fit the description!

You might point out that Ceres IS rounded under its own gravity… and you’d be correct! Which is why it’s considered a dwarf planet even today! I’m pretty sure it was still lumped into the category of minor planet at the time though, since the term dwarf planet didnt exist at the time and it kept things simple. Please correct me if I’m wrong though, I’d love to learn more about Ceres!

We were comfortable with these two rules for a long time, and when we discovered Pluto it fit right into the category of planet! However we started having some trouble when we discovered Eris, and it 2005 it was named the 10th planet. In fact, Eris is actually larger than Pluto! Or… it’s debated? They’re both very similar in size but we don’t have much data on Eris because it orbits the sun 3 times further away than Pluto, or 68 times further away than the Earth! (In other worlds 68 astronomical units). It’s so hard to observe…

But it brought up the question of where do we draw the line? There’s no telling how many dozens of small Kuiper Belt Objects we’d end up calling a planet, and if you include one you have to include them all…

So in 2006 a third rule was put into place; an object has to be massive enough to clear its orbital path, or in other words it has to be able to clear out any debris in its path with its own gravity. That excludes all objects in the Kuiper belt, as well as all objects in the asteroid belt (so now Ceres can have a place to fit in!). These objects were called dwarf planets! Since then we’ve discovered many more dwarf planets (two of which were called Easter Bunny and Santa because of the times of the year they were discovered, and were later renamed Makemake and Haumea. Irrelevant but fun!).

So that’s why Pluto’s no longer considered a planet! I don’t think of this as a bad thing, if anything it just made it go from being in last place as far as planets go to being in first place as far as dwarf planets go, and it’s been affectionately called the king of the Kuiper belt.

Nomenclature is hard though, and space doesn’t care about exact definitions. The asteroid Vesta is way larger than the Saturn’s moon Mimas, but Mimas is round while Vesta is not. If it hadn’t been impacted by two asteroids Vesta would likely still be round and it would be considered a dwarf planet, but it isn’t round so it doesn’t get that title! And what do we consider round enough to be hydrostatic equilibrium? And all planets have objects in their Lagrange points, they technically aren’t considered clear from the planet’s orbit but they do follow the planet as it orbits the sun! What’s the exact number of space specks we’ll allow a planet to have to still be considered a planet, because I’m sure there’s a planet in some far off solar system that has that exact number!

My point is this is all really complicated and tedious and there are no exacts and I’m in way over my head so! Please don’t argue with me about Pluto needing to be included in the season or needing to be considered a planet. Maybe I’ll give them a spot in the seasonal design, along with a few other dwarf planets, if I have enough time on my hands and motivation to design such a thing. As for if it needs to be considered a planet, take that one up with NASA and not me! (/lighthearted)
